After the success of the brilliant Matt Damon-starring Bourne trilogy, The Bourne Legacy was an awkward transitional movie which installed Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) as the series' new protagonist, even if it couldn't resist occasionally referencing Damon's Bourne because, well, he's so awesome. Legacy was a mostly mixed bag, confirming Renner's ability in the action arena if not exactly giving him lots to do, and hinging on a rather preposterous pseudo-scientific narrative. What do we know about Bourne 5? Renner is back for certain, and Justin Lin has been tapped to direct, certainly a fine choice given his excellent action direction on the Fast and Furious movies. Recently, both Matt Damon and series director Paul Greengrass have been lobbying to work on Bourne 5, though given that Lin is now confirmed to direct, it's unlikely we'll see Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross teaming up for Bourne 5, as awesome as that would be. We just ask for one thing: if it's a Justin Lin movie, it needs to have at least two car chases. Predicted Rotten Tomatoes Score: 61%
10. Frankenstein (Oct 2)
Another adaptation of a much-adapted text that isn't exactly on our wishlist is Frankenstein, but with James McAvoy playing Victor Von Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe taking the part of lackey Igor (complete with a hilariously awful haircut), it's hard not to be intrigued. Solid director Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Push, various Sherlock episodes) is helming, while Chronicle co-writer Max Landis has penned the script, and talented rising stars Jessica Brown Findlay and Andrew Scott will appear in supporting roles. Again, it's not something cinema has been screaming out to see adapted once again, but hopefully it'll help Radcliffe further distance himself from the Harry Potter franchise, and McAvoy is a reliably brilliant actor who there is little doubt will nail the title role.
