30 Greatest Best Picture Oscar Nominees Of The Last Ten Years

2. Birdman

Birdman Michael Keaton
Fox Searchlight

Birdman scored an unexpected win over Boyhood and in the process, it emerged as one of the strangest and most downright bizarre Best Picture winners ever. Oh, and one of the most brilliant too.

Overflowing with darkly hilarious lines, brilliantly clever satire, pathos-ridden drama and some of the most utterly ingenious writing in recent memory - and all captured in bravura single-shot cinematography and performed by a consummate cast - Birdman is quite arguably one of the finest films of the 2010s.

Birdman does seem to have its share of detractors and that's understandable; it's in-your-face style won't be to all tastes. But for those who can fully get on-board with the madness, they're likely to find it one of the richest, funniest, more entertaining and most rewarding viewing experiences of recent years.

So, what's number one?
