16. Mace Windu
Generally accepted as the second most powerful Jedi in the galaxy after Yoda, and he might actually have surpassed him as a swordsmen, Windu was a living legend due to his abilities in the force as well as the fact that he invented his own style of lightsaber combat called Vaapad which brought the user uncomfortably close to the Dark Side of the Force. He was one of the most prominent generals in the Clone Wars fighting on many different fronts. Near the end of the war he attempted to arrest Emperor Palpatine after discovering he was a Sith lord and with a team of three other council members he confronted Palpatine who quickly killed all but Windu. He defeated Palpatine but was killed after Anakin Skywalker intervened and betrayed him. Mace Windu is played by Samuel L. Jackson, automatically making him the baddest Jedi in the Old Republic. He personally defeated renowned warriors such as Jango Fett, General Grievous and Darth Sidious and it took a betrayal by Anakin Skywalker to take him down. Although the rumors of him reprising his role in the upcoming sequels is disturbing, I can't deny that a part of me would be ecstatic to see him on the big screen again.
