30 Most Memorable Oscar Moments From The Last 30 Years
14. Paul Giamatti Isn't Even Nominated For Best Actor (2005)
Despite receiving five Oscar nominations in 2005, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, there's one nod that Alexander Payne's brilliantly biting comedy Sideways failed to receive.
Paul Giamatti was incredulously snubbed for a Best Actor nomination for his career-best work as sad sack Miles Raymond, despite receiving countless nominations and wins on the road to the Oscars.
It was especially galling as Giamatti was also snubbed for his incredible work in American Splendor the year before, and only a year after Sideways did the Academy finally give him some recognition with a Best Supporting Actor nod for Cinderella Man (which somehow remains his only nomination to date).
Now, the Academy went all in on Jamie Foxx's performance as Ray Charles in 2005, and that's fair enough, but was Johnny Depp's turn in Finding Neverland really more worthy of a nom than Giamatti's? Baffling.
