Played by $40 a day stuntman George Barrows, Ro-Man is a space gorilla who, in between wiping out the human race, plays with a bubble machine in a cave in Bronson Canyon.
When director Phil Tucker couldn’t afford to make a robot suit, he hired Barrows, who had his own ape costume, gave him a plastic diving helmet with two attached antennae, and a legend was born.
