37 WTF Moments From The Hunger Games Movies

20. The Death Of Philip Seymour Hoffman

Film lovers everywhere were left shocked on February 2, 2014, when Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played Plutarch Heavensbee in the Hunger Games series, died of a drug overdose. Many headlines were made of how his death would affect the release of both Mockingjay movies, though it soon came to light that his work had been completed on Part 1, while he still had an "emotional" scene left to shoot for the finale. It would be perfectly possible to watch Mockingjay Part 2 without knowing Hoffman had died and knowing no different: he is subtly edited out of scenes where he would otherwise be stood in the background, and his climactic emotional speech to Katniss at the very end is instead changed to be a letter, read to her by Haymitch. Mockingjay Part 2 resumed filming just days after Hoffman died, and according to Jennifer Lawrence, most of the cast struggled to maintain eye contact with Hoffman's body double assigned for some scenes.
