The Method: You'd think that packing on pounds for a role would at least be somewhat fun. Let yourself go and all that, right?
Not so much, at least in this case. He did stuff like quaff melted ice cream mixed with olive oil and soy sauce. Gross.
The Damage: He got gout. GOUT. He couldn't walk at one point, having to be wheeled onto set.
Was it Worth It? It was so much not worth it that it's the reason Leto is number one on this list.
Chapter 27 got an abysmal reaction, both in the press and the box office. All that work for nothing.
