2. Abe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xovQcEOdg8 Abe is as much of an example of how feelings of love can get corrupted as it is a science fiction movie. The only thing is that in this case, human behaviour gets applied to a robot in the most horrifying way you can imagine. If another robot is broken or out of order, what does the other robot do? Repairs it, of course. And what if the robot detected that a human is broken using the same logic of reparation? You would get a surgeon. Now, remove knowledge of how human body works and add emotions to the mix. What do you get now? A serial killer, it would seem. This is another seemingly idyllic universe where the world is a normal enough place and humans use robots and similar machinery as appliances. This relationship seems to work just fine, with an exception. The titular robot, Abe, has developed distorted emotions towards humans and wishes to make it so that they love him back. He seeks his desire to be loved by kidnapping young women with whom he falls in love and then trying to "fix" them via surgery. This is a somewhat new take on the old robots-gone-haywire theme, and works terrifyingly good. Abe is a perfect serial killer, hunting unhindered, as it would seem. Add a grumpy detective who's looking for the missing women to the combination and you've got a blockbuster. At least, that's what MGM seems to think, as they're working on a full feature film based on the given short right now. This is a very interesting idea that just may work as a feature if it's done right.
