5 Awesome Ed Norton Performances and 5 That Sucked

€and 5 That Sucked

5. Pride and Glory (2008)

Norton€™s Character: Ray Tierney Why It Sucked: Pride and Glory is by no means a great movie, yet it€™s not quite a terrible one either. Who knows, if it was made 20 years ago, maybe it€™d have had a different reception, but released in 2008, it was just an all too familiar story. Norton isn€™t exactly terrible here; he just doesn€™t seem to be pushing himself to deliver that killer performance, instead falling back on old cop cliché crutches. Maybe it was the direction, maybe it was the decidedly tepid script; either way, this can€™t be considered even anywhere close to Norton€™s finest hour.

4. Keeping the Faith (2000)

Norton€™s Character: Father Brian Finn Why It Sucked: Again, I€™m not filled with any sort of vengeful hatred for Keeping the Faith, Norton€™s directorial debut. On the other hand, I€™m not particularly enamoured with it either. As a movie examining a love triangle, it€™s decidedly shallow in its definition of love and as a comedy its humour is surprisingly thin on the ground. As well as directing duties, Norton takes the role of one of the central characters. His performance as the hopelessly love-struck priest is good; it's Ed Norton we€™re talking about, he€™s never fully terrible. But it€™s not amazing. It€™s not even great; it€™s just€ good. I€™m not sure I buy Norton in a clean cut comedy setting. I€™d much prefer to see him struggling to contain a violent alter-ego than struggling to make an audience laugh.
