5 Best (& 5 Worst) Lord Of The Rings Extended Edition Scenes

9. BEST: Faramir And Pippin

This scene between Faramir and Pippin is so brief that even the most loyal fans will barely remember this two minute scene between the two characters in the halls of Minas Tirith.

As a nervous Pippin tries on a suit of armour which is several sizes too big for him, Faramir notes it once belonged to a young boy in the city who "wasted many hours slaying dragons instead of attending to his studies." As Pippin realises he is wearing Faramir's old armour they share a moment as Faramir notes it never fitted him either but was intended for his older brother, Boromir.

Pippin reaches out to the disheartened Faramir who had long been in his brother's shadow and states "I think you have strength of a different kind. And one day your father will see it." While this scene is not a big action set piece or one that has ramifications for the rest of the film it is a beautifully written and perfectly played by both actors.

Seeing the fairly stoic Faramir exchange a laugh with Pippin is refreshing while also proving to be an extremely human moment on the eve of battle.
