5 Best New Films Shown At Celluloid Screams 2013

5. Jug Face

Jug Face If you attended the screening of Jug Face on Saturday and didn't fall instantly in love with the film's leading actress Lauren Ashley Carter then you probably need to check your pulse to see if you're even alive. The film is set in present day backwoods America where a community of hicks spend their days brewing moonshine, sleeping with their sisters and worshipping a mysterious, vengeful hole in the ground. For generations the community has prayed to the pit in times of need in return for a human sacrifice who is selected by means of possessing a potter who sculpts the victims face into a rather hideous jug - hence the title. On this occasion the pit has selected the incestuous young woman Ada as its sacrifice. Upon realising she is the next 'jug face' Ada hides the ugly looking jug and sets in motion a chain of events that will rip the age old community apart - in many cases literally. Jug Face takes a typical horror staple like a hick community with strange beliefs and turns it into a solid, effective horror movie that is an absolute credit to it's director. The concept is certainly bonkers but it's bonkers enough to actually be true and with a cast as strong as it has (Larry Fessenden and Sean Young both star) it is certain to attain cult status within months. Whether Jug Face will ever go beyond a cool indie horror flick is uncertain and there's always the worry it will disappear after it's festival run. However it's one you need to see when you get the chance and be a dear, tell your friends about it.
