5 Comic Book Movies That Deserve A 2nd Chance (And 5 You Should Forget)

Catwoman is a camp classic that takes so many liberties with the source material and substitutes so many jaw-dropping concepts that you have to suspect the writers (all 20 of them) were having a laugh. You certainly will – this is one of the funniest movies of the 2000s.

There’s just so much nonsense to enjoy, beginning with the explanation for how Halle Berry gets her powers. Left for dead by her employer, Halle’s body washes up and is instantly given the kiss of life by a hilariously unconvincing CG cat, but not just any kind of cat – this one’s a mystical Egyptian feline capable of resurrecting the dead and imbuing them with super strength and cat-like reflexes. It just happened to be in the neighbourhood or something.

When the cat’s owner (Frances Conroy) gives her a superhero mask she just happens to own, Halle designs a skimpy costume that brings to mind Blade’s retort from Blade: Trinity (“Is that supposed to be tactical?”) and scurries off into the night to fight bad guys.

Fortunately, all the villains are one-dimensional clods that allow themselves to be captured by a superhero who makes dreadful puns (“What a purr-fect idea!”) and wears a costume that covers her face but not her midriff. If you’re gonna leave ‘em rolling in the aisles, this is the way to do it.
