1. Ang Lee
Ang Lee's name doesn't come up in fanboy circles when talking about comic book films anymore, thanks in no small part to the mess that was 2003's Hulk. Unrated and misunderstood as that film may be, it was a dud upon arrival and received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. However, many of the film's criticisms came from Lee's decision to stray a bit far from the source material, while including some darker story elements audiences weren't quite ready for. He was praised for what he was able to do with the film's script, character development, and acting, so it's not like the film was a total disaster. The two-time Academy Award winner for Best Director could deliver an incredible Aquaman film, that could actually benefit from many of the choices that made Hulk a bit controversial. Then of course there's his work on 2012's Life of Pi, which showed an incredible aptitude for special effects, specifically those that involve the water. Lee could take the skills he learned there, use the character-driven mentality he's so known for, and give the superhero genre another go by introducing the world to Aquaman in a big, big way. So, there we have it! 5 directors who could make an incredible Aquaman film. Now, the likelihood of any of them landing the coveted gig seem small at the moment, but anything could happen. With the right director in place, Aquaman could prove to be one of the better comic book film franchises ever made, and there's no doubt that any of the men on this list could make that happen.
