5 Directors Who Fell Back On Their Star Properties After Years Away

4. Martin Campbell - James Bond

Edge of Darkness The Bond franchise seems to do a very good job of taking care of its own. Many directors returned time and again to helm new 007 pictures such as John Glen and Guy Hamilton. It seems for certain that Sam Mendes will return in the future after the great success of Skyfall and if this article were being written that far into the future perhaps he would have made this list instead. The man who fits perfectly this round, however, is Martin Campbell, the director of Goldeneye, who returned to the series eleven years later to make Casino Royale. It's surprising that he did not return for Quantum of Solace when Campbell is essentially the man who defibrillated the Bond franchise twice. His credits may strike you as the gun-for-hire director, a working man in film production, yet with another Bond film or two he may transcend all of that to become a household name. It is probably safe to say that like Bond himself, he will return.
