3. The Child Who Came From An Egg
This Estonian fairy tale is about a queen who could not conceive any children. To comfort her, an elderly woman gave her an egg which hatched into a doll. The doll grew into a little girl. The woman was also granted a son through natural birth with the rule that he would be raised by herself. The doll-girl would have to be raised by a nurse. When the girl was old enough to be christened the elderly woman appeared in the form of a beautiful dazzling fairy god-mother who christened her with the name Dotterine. Dotterine was well looked after by the nurse who kept the girls true identity well hidden from her. The queen died when Dotterine was ten years old. On her deathbed she told the nurse that she should give Dotterine her baby basket when she turns ten years old with the advice to guard it well. The king remarries a bitchy new woman (don't they always) who finds out about Dotterine and beats her. Dotterine runs away. In her sadness she sees her old baby basket and an old feather lying inside it. She flings the feather out the window and to her surprise a fairy god mother appears. Now Dotterine finds out that whenever she needs help her godmother is just a feather-throw away. Much later the city is violently besieged and Dotterine throws the goose wing out the window. The siege lasts so long the town runs out of food and people are starving. The godmother carries Dotterine to safety. The rest of the townsfolk are not so lucky. The king and his men are captured and the queen meets her death by an enemy spear. The prince however is still alive and he wins the city backs and becomes king. Now that he is a king he has to choose a wife. Dotterines godmother fills her basket with beauiftul gowns so she can woo the king. Before you cry incest remember that the son came from a natural birth and Dotterine came out of that egg so it's not that weird. Not really.
How To Make It Awesome: The centre piece of this film has got to be the siege: its a war, it will make this movie epic. Dotterine has been beaten down by the queen, a figure who not only represents her family but also the entire country. Dotterine's heart is blackened by betrayal. Perhaps she doesn't care that her town is being besieged and that people are dying, her family have abandoned her anyway. There could be a point where shes enticed to join the other side leading to a climactic question: whose spear killed the queen?
