5 Films That Would Win Oscars In A Bizarre Parallel Universe

3. Mommie Dearest (1981) - Best Actress

mommie mommie "Tina! Bring me the axe!". Kill yourself by laughing so much biography of actress Joan Crawford, based on the 'my poor childhood' twat of a tell all book by her adopted daughter Christina. Poor Joanie gets the evil mommy makeover. She is an anally retentive, obsessive-compulsive uptight bitch who gets an urge to adopt kiddies. Cue the entrance of Christina and Christopher who are alternately showered with lavish gifts or subject to extreme stern discipline from Mommie Dearest. Child abuse is not a funny subject in all seriousness. I donate money every month to the NSPCC. But the actress who plays the young Christina is such a freaking annoying little turd, you positively go into raptures when Joanie starts one of her mad tirades on her - including the infamous "No wire hangers!" scene. You cheer Faye Dunaway on in her gloriously over the top performance as she threatens, bullies, dominates and terrorises Christina. It is the most extraordinary thing. But most of all it is a very funny film about a very serious subject. I defy anyone not to laugh. The Oscar for Best Actress goes to.... Faye Dunaway!

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
