4. Boba Fett
No side character in the history of pop culture has been as well-received as this effortlessly cool bounty hunter. His popularity amongst Star Wars fans was so sudden and unexpected, not even a master toy marketer like George Lucas couldve predicted it. Mr. Fett was a man of few words, but those few words were so badass, he even earned the subtle admiration of Darth Vader. So beloved was Boba Fett, that his controversial death via slapstick jetpack accident in Return of the Jedi has been ret-conned by the Extended Universe. He deserved better than the laughable demise he received, and he definitely deserved better than the origin story he got in Attack of the Clones. What made Boba Fett so great was that he was enigmatic. We didnt know anything about him, we didnt need to know anything about him, and we didnt want to know anything about him. But when Lucas sees a characters popularity, he immediately sees that characters profitability. And thats too bad, because the last thing fans wanted to see was Boba Fett as an annoying little kid. Learning that Boba was the son/clone of Jango Fett, another bounty hunter, tried and failed to add depth to his character, but succeeded in destroying the mystery surrounding him. Fett seems a lot less special when you realize that hes essentially just a storm trooper in different armor.
