5 Horror Remakes Done Right

1. The Fly (1986)

Goldblum The Fly The Fly topping the list should not come as a surprise. Vincent Price's 1958 adaptation of George Langelaan's short story is by no means a bad movie, in fact it's quite good but Cronenberg created something uniquely tuned to his own style that resonated with audiences. Unlike most other remakes, The Fly was a success commercially resulting in an Academy Award for Best Makeup but the Academy then snubbed Jeff Goldblum for a Best Actor nomination. Although not a shock to horror fans as the Academy rarely recognizes the genre, many felt that Goldblum's exceptionally hubristic performance in the film should have garnered him a nod at the very least. When the original Fly approaches its finale, it dwindles into the campy terrority, Cronenbergs version descends into a horrifying literal metamorphises of the physical and mental that leaves you jofully exhausted by the end.
