2. Scotty Sabotaging A Starfleet Prototype
If anybody knows their way around the insides of a Starship, it's Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott. Not only does he supposedly know the Enterprise like the back of his hand, but he's also rather handy to have around another Starship when it's threatening his own. He was there to tinker around with Admiral Marcus' powerful new Dreadnought class USS Vengeance when it was raining phaser fire down on the Enterprise, and he also sabotaged the USS Excelsior during it's first appearance in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock. Although not quite under the same pressure as Simon Pegg's, James Doohan's chief engineer sabotaging the ship's newly developed transwarp drive, which allowed Kirk and friends to take back their ship against starfleet's orders. Not only was this a similar instance of helping the Enterprise out in a rather sticky predicament, it was through his actions that the Enterprise and her crew was able to stop Starfleet pursuing them, and begin their eponymous search in the first place. Always ready with a cheeky grin, Scotty even gives Dr. McCoy souvenir components from the saabotaged transwarp drive "from one surgeon to another", before the crew embark on a mission that continues the poignant events of the previous film...
