2. 28 Days Later (2002)
Back to Danny Boyle for a film that any other director would have been happy to call their own but for him it's just another amazing film in a filmography full of high quality. To call 28 Days Later the best zombie film of the '00s is to do a disservice to the film itself because it is clearly one of the best zombie films ever made no matter how much Danny Boyle denies the claim that it is a zombie film. 28 Days Later accomplishes what all amazing zombie movies do in that it is not only an extremely well made horror movie but it also features a subtle layer of satire and political allegory. Cillian Murphy gives one of the best performances of his extremely underrated career and Danny Boyle gives his direction of the film a sense of dread and loss that would make David Fincher blush with envy while also telling an incredibly chilling story about survival.
