(and all its variations) making the rounds in movies today. Perhaps amusing in its first usage (it's hard to imagine it), this wacky phrase has lost all traces of humour ever associated with it and serves instead as the tool of a desperate filmmaker looking for an easy laugh. "I've gotta get me one of these" is almost always uttered by a character who is somewhat out of their depth and exposed to a new or bizarre situation. Suddenly, they find themselves in operation of a weapon or vehicle or artefact that aids them out of a jam in ways they could have never possibly imagined. It's most annoying, though, because the line reads as though it's supposed to be funny every single time, as if audiences are expected to laugh and shout "God, yes! He does have to get one of those! Look how much he's loving that new thing! It's absolutely mental." Note: The character who says this stock phrase is, by default, rendered instantly uncool. Sorry, Commissioner Gordon. Example?A powerful alien race has landed on earth and have enslaved mankind. Two rebels, Topher and Jones, are moving through the streets with rifles, trying to not get caught. They stop and spot and alien facing away from them.Topher: Wait. Look... it's one of them. Jones: Let's take the bastard down. They move ahead, and Jones takes down the alien with two shots from his rifle.Topher: Nice moves. They look down at the alien's inventory. There's a small object that looks like a pipe. Topher picks it up.Jones: What's that thing? Topher: God knows. Suddenly ten aliens come around the corner and start firing at the pair. Jones panics and falls back, knocking into Topher - he drops the pipe... it hits the floor, blasts out a laser the size of small dog, and blows the aliens to hell. Jones picks the pipe up as he and Topher exchange amused glances.Topher: I've gotta get me one of these!
