2. The Tick (The Tick, 2001)
One common theme throughout this list is mental instability. In fact that is surely a common theme throughout the majority of comic books throughout the history of the medium. There's no doubt that guys like Bruce Wayne, Frank Castle and the like are all unstable in some way. The only difference is (with the exception of Castle perhaps) they are able to create a straight laced façade that the public get to see. Imagine if someone at Arkham managed to do a psych evaluation on Gotham's Dark Knight? The term Bat Shit Crazy springs to mind. Just like Batman et al The Tick is also crazy except he's so far over the edge that he doesn't even have a secret identity because he truly believes he is indeed The Tick, defender of The City. With his former accountant turned sidekick Arthur in tow The Tick crashes and bungles his way through the day fighting ridiculous sounding bad guys who try to write their names in the moon or blow shit up at midnight. He's huge, he's strong and he's so clueless that he's actually a pretty damn effective hero - though it helps having guys like Bat Manuel and American Maid backing him up along the way.
