2. Robocop (1987)
Robocop was one of the first film's I ever owned on VHS. Of course I was about 7 years old at the time so my parents had bought it for me because for whatever reason they thought I'd enjoy it. They were right. Robocop was the most brutal film I had ever seen up to that point. It had more blood, more guts and more swearing that my tiny mind had ever experienced - and I grew up in a bad neighbourhood! It also featured an all too brief breast shot that opened my young eyes to the female form - I've never looked back since. God I love you Robocop. Amidst all the uber cool violence was the scene in which good cop Alex Murphy follows a band of ne'er-do-wells into their hideout and finds himself cornered and under attack. As the bad guys begin to attack Murphy finds himself on the floor merciless to what is about to happen. Check out the clip above to see the attack in all its brutal glory but for the light hearted readers out there gang boss and all round horrible man Clarence Boddicker seizes this opportunity to blast Murphy's hand clean off with his shotgun. It explodes all over the floor in a blur of flesh, bone and crimson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeUW4gm4WLM The moments that follow the 'amputation' are heart wrenching as family man, rookie and all round nice guy Alex Murphy stumbles around sans hand. His pain is brief though as he is then ploughed down in a barrage of gun fire. It is a horrifically dark and violent moment that sets the tone for one of the greatest sci-fi action movies of all time.
