3. Tom Petty - The Postman
The Postman, released in 1997, was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for Kevin Costners career as a leading man. While admittedly ambitious, The Postman was a dull, monotonous, three hour bore fest that very few people went to see on release. Within the film, Kevin Costners stumbles across a very familiar face, that of Tom Petty, who is obviously the first person you think of to appear when in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Blandly reading through the script, the pauses that accompany every sentence are excruciatingly bloated, so self-aware was the film that the audience would recognise the rock star. It feels like they felt the need to include these pauses so the audiences fit of laughter and chorus of ooohs and ahhhhs would mean they wouldnt miss the next line. Does it add anything to the movie? Surrealism perhaps. I know you, you were famous I was sort of, kind of, not anymore (cue pause for laughter) Ergggh.
