5 Most Hateful Film Cameos

3. Tom Petty - The Postman

postman121 The Postman, released in 1997, was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for Kevin Costner€™s career as a leading man. While admittedly ambitious, The Postman was a dull, monotonous, three hour bore fest that very few people went to see on release. Within the film, Kevin Costners stumbles across a very familiar face, that of Tom Petty, who is obviously the first person you think of to appear when in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Blandly reading through the script, the pauses that accompany every sentence are excruciatingly bloated, so self-aware was the film that the audience would recognise the rock star. It feels like they felt the need to include these pauses so the audience€™s fit of laughter and chorus of oooh€™s and ahhhh€™s would mean they wouldn€™t miss the next line. Does it add anything to the movie? Surrealism perhaps. €œI know you, you were famous€ €œI was sort of, kind of, not anymore€ (cue pause for laughter) Ergggh.
