5 Most Hotly Anticipated Films of 1998

1. Psycho

Psycho Even though the Alfred Hitchcock original film is considered by many to be a classic cinema staple, the reality still remains that by updating these older films to contemporary standards just makes for a better movie going experience. We as intelligent viewers need more nowadays to entertain and terrify us in the horror genre. Enter director Gus Van Sant who clearly understands the wants and needs of today's generation while still holding true to the idea of the original slasher film Psycho. We at What Culture could not be more excited for this film. Imagine Psycho being in color, shot with better quality cameras, and hip newcomer actors. Seeing the infamous shower scene for the first time with red blood will finally give the scene a much needed shot in the arm. Fear not though avid Hitchcock fans, as Van Sant has promised that he will actually be creating a shot-for-shot remake of the film. The most exciting element of this project is the casting of Vince Vaughn in the role of Norman Bates. Though Vaughn has only been able to show his acting talents in Swingers and The Lost World: Jurassic Park, it is clear that he possesses the right kind of childish wonder that made Norman Bates so creepy in the first place. After this performance I guarantee that Vaughn will become an important cog in the horror and drama genre with serious roles of a broad and interesting sort. Psycho hits theaters December 4th and will no doubt be debated tirelessly as to whether or not it is better than the original. At this point however, all signs point to a big yes!
