5 Movie Bad-Guys With Completely Justifiable Motives

2. General Frank Hummel - The Rock

therock_a

The antagonist: General Frank Hummel (Ed Harris)

What they did: Stole a cache of rockets that contain deadly gas; held more than 80 innocent people hostage at Alcatraz, demanding $100 million for their safe return; led his team to kill a squad of Marines.

Why this is justifiable: Although General Frank Hummel certainly takes drastic measures for his cause, he does so because he will distribute the $100 million to families of marines whose deaths were not properly honored. Those marines, who were under his command, were on secret missions which is why the US government did not properly honor them. When you watch young men and women train with you, then die under your command, you expect your government to give them a proper burial instead of pretending like it never happened. His superiors swept it under the rug since they were on confidential missions. General Hummel is a man built of respect and is pissed that the government that hired him does not have that same respect for some of their own soldiers. At the end of the day, he wants justice to for his fallen soldiers.
