In the comics, Wolverine and Sabretooth are essentially opposite sides of the same savage coin. In the first X-Men movie, Tyler Mane played a very one-dimensional Sabretooth. Much like Bane in Batman and Robin, Sabretooth was relegated to "disposable henchmen" status. In Mane's defense, the first X-Men movie was problematic for many long-time fans. Sabretooth's role in the narrative was certainly one of them.

Mane's Sabretooth did look the part a bit better than his replacement. Unfortunately, the script veered the character pretty far from his four-color origins. The film suggested that Logan and Victor Creed (Sabretooth) had no history together. Victor also disappeared from the franchise after this film, until his story was once again retconned for Wolverine's origin story.

When Liev Schreiber took on the role for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he became one of the few bright spots in the film. This movie tells audiences that Logan (Wolverine) and Victor were mutant brothers who fought alongside each other for many decades. This Sabretooth was not just given more opportunities to shine, but Schreiber's unnerving delivery of the character made him the definitive actor for Sabretooth. This was the nemesis comic fans were waiting for.

Sadly, the character hasn't appeared on screen since X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
