5 Movie Critics Who Tried (And Mostly Failed) To Make Movies

4. Roger Ebert

The late Roger Ebert is arguably the most well known movie critic to ever live and review films. However, early in his film reviewing years at the Chicago Sun-Times, Roger Ebert got into movie making with famous exploitation director Russ Meyer. Meyer hired young Ebert to work in his office and pen the movie. The film was made and became a cult classic, but Ebert's further attempts at screenwriting stalled. Wanting to keep his lucky charm of a screenwriter, Meyer convinced Ebert to take a longer leave of absence from the Sun-Times in 1970. Their next film endeavor was going to be a movie that would star the Sex Pistols, and typically, the band proved to be difficult to work with and the movie, titled Who Killed Bambi? never got made. Still, Ebert finished a screenplay and published it on his website many years later. However, the experience ended Ebert's attempts at screenwriting. Not long after Who Killed Bambi? failed to get made, Ebert and Meyer parted ways and Roger went on to become to face of movie criticism through his shows At the Movies and Ebert and Roeper.
