5 Movies That Magically Brought Their Stars Back From The Dead

4. Marlon Brando's Death Freed Him Up To Star In Superman Returns

Sr Richard Donner set the precedent for big name actors tackling pulpy superhero films with his Superman duology, putting the man behind Vito Corleone as Jor-El in Superman: The Movie. Cut from the sequel due to the clashes between Donner and the film's producers, as well as the actor's high price tag for use of the footage leftover from the dual shoot of the first two movies, his role was eventually placed into Superman II as part of the directors cut in 2006. But that wasn't the only new appearance (for audiences anyway) of Brando in a Superman film. Set after the events of Donner's films (and essentially removing III and Quest For Peace from continuity), Superman Returns furthered the link between Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh by having a pre recorded message from Jor-El. Part CG, part Brando's original performance from thirty years earlier, this proved to be a much easier element of production that it was with II in 1980. Bryan Singer had full access to the Superman archives and managed to swing a deal with Brando's estate following the actor's death to use whatever he wanted in the film. Sadly, this effort was mostly overlooked by fans who held back no speeding bullets in their criticisms of the film.
