4. Minions
Out of the films on this list Minions is probably the most harmless. It really doesn't go out to offend anyone or assist in the loss of too many I.Q. points. But there is a little something about the obvious money grab going on here. Despicable Me was respectable enough but the idea of only having the Minions as the center of a film just sounds impossible (although Steve Carell does seem to be attached). After seeing sidekicks get the lead direction as done in Cars 2, giving that much investment into characters that were meant for nothing more than easy laughs is a big mistake. With Finding Dory in the works, along with this, it shows another trend of what can possibly be trading the chance of a good story for something that may only rely on odd noises and awkward props to keep the senses occupied long enough until you pay for your ticket. Yes I know Minions is not targeted to me as an adult (and that I will end up watching Finding Dory), but it is more about what the film represents as a decline in a genre that Pixar has proven can be legitimate storytelling. I won't bash Minions too bad because it feels like kicking ice cream out of a child's hand, but I will say that the idea of Minions is just plain shameless and without the heart of the first.
