As we come to the end of 2013, it's prestige time, with every Tom, Dick and Harry throwing their best foot forward in the hope of landing some precious nominations during the awards season. Films like 12 Years a Slave, Gravity and Philomena are hitting all the right notes with critics and audiences alike, yet something sinister continues to rear its ugly head whenever a gold man on a pedestal edges ever closer. Blockbusters get a bad wrap, and most of the time criticisms are justified. But at the very least theres an explosion around the corner to entertain you for five seconds. Most Oscar bait films dont have explosions, which kind of renders the really bad ones utterly unwatchable.
