1. Steven Spielberg
Universal Pictures On first impressions, it might seem too easy to recommend Spielberg, seeing as the man is a bona-fide legend and anyone who cares a fraction about movies has undoubtedly heard of him. But it is with Spielberg's revered, award-winning blockbuster movies that make his stature stand above the other candidates as the prime director to helm Uncharted. Spielberg is one of the very few directors who has managed to make movies in a variety of genres, and with unprecedented success. His work over the decades with blockbuster films have seen Spielberg awarded accolades and achieve the unrivalled reputation, as Roger Ebert so grandly declared in his review of
Jaws, as the king. Uncharted would not be constructed with the aim of winning Oscars; it would be made, first and foremost, to entertain the millions of fans already deeply attached to franchise. Spielberg knows his blockbuster audiences and this is primarily why he would be the perfect choice to helm Uncharted. One of the most successful and iconic movie franchises of all time is undoubtedly Indiana Jones, and his directorial skill with that franchise makes him the strongest candidate to tackle Uncharted. Like Nathan Drake, Indy bristled with arrogant, but utterly likeable swagger, and there is a lot in that character's world that would work for a movie Uncharted too.
