4. Which Actors Are Returning?
After Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jrs contract with Marvel also came to an end. In renegotiating for the Avengers sequel, one of Downeys demands apparently was that his co-stars get higher paychecks as well, and Downey has been seen by many among the cast as a big brother type who is looking out for them and their well-being. But Marvel is notoriously stingy, and money has caused some friction between them and the other stars. We already know Jeremy Renner may not return, which could mean the character would be recast or even replaced with another character (the Avengers have no shortage of those, after all). And Scarlett Johansson is apparently not happy with her salary and may not return. Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans have also clashed with Marvel. So up to now, all we really know is that Downey will be back as Iron Man. But who among the other actors will join him? Mark Ruffalo may also be a definite, given that not much has come to light about any problems between him and Marvel, but that still leaves a question mark on the others.
