4. Ben Affleck As Bruce Wayne Is A Good Idea
Look at any picture of Ben Affleck from an awards ceremony. Take your time. Go ahead, I'll wait... Finished? Is there anything about the guy that doesn't say Bruce Wayne? He's tall. He has that younger look that means he'll probably still look twenty when he's sixty-three. He's comfortable in a suit. He always has his hair combed in a very neat way. I'm not trying to turn this into a hetero-Ben Affleck lovefest, but if we all agree that one of Bruce Wayne's defining characteristics is his boyish looks and playboy appearance, there's no way anyone can argue with Ben Affleck as Batman's alter-ego. With the money he has, the guy could be Batman in real life for all we know. Beyond the superficial connection though, I believe there's another, subliminal reason that Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne is a good idea. If we're operating under the conceit that this Batman is a well-established crime-fighter and that Cavill's Superman is still learning his craft, then casting Affleck, a more established, more recognizable actor than Cavill in every way to play a more established, more recognizable Bruce Wayne makes perfect sense. Clark Kent is a nobody. Bruce Wayne is known by all. Cavill is most well-known for being Superman. Affleck is well-known for many things. Clark Kent is most well-known for being Superman. Bruce Wayne is well-known for many things. In a very meta way, it makes complete sense to put someone like Affleck in the role. For this film and its context, it's a perfect fit. Plus, if they want to save some money, he may bring his own suits.
