2. They Appeal To Adults
If you are a parent, it can be very challenging when trying to find an animated movie that your kids will like and wont drive you crazy. Trust me, some of these kid-friendly movies are so mindless that you will want to jump off a bridge before you reach the halfway mark. There was a stigma with animated movies for the longest time as many people perceived them to be strictly made for children. A few notable exceptions popped up here and there but for the most part, childrens animated films did not venture outside of their comfort zone.
Thankfully, Pixar helped to rectify this situation with movies that, while animated, contain stories and references that directly appeal to adults. Take Pixars film, Wall-E: beyond the charming robot characters, the film deals with the devastating damage that humans are doing to earth and where we might end up if we dont change our ways. It shows a future society of obese people who are so disconnected that merely touching one another is a new sensation. Hardly kiddie material, wouldn't you say? The brilliant thing is, kids are still able to get a visceral kick out of Wall-E while you drink in the substance behind the candy coated colors. It's a total win-win.
This is partially why Pixar is so successful and great at what they do. The create stories that are truly universal, that have depth and make everyone, at every age, think about the things they present. And they do it over and over again.
