5 Reasons GoldenEye Would Have Been Better With Timothy Dalton

4. 006 vs 007007_GoldenEye_-_Alec_Trevelyan Every single time I throw in GoldenEye I look at Sean Bean's performance as 006 as sort of this throwback to the way Dalton played 007 in The Living Daylights, and License to Kill. He's exudes seriousness, and a much darker side to the character to which Ian Fleming wrote 007 in the novels. However, as convincing as Bean's portrayal was here of a bitter 00 agent, playing off the more witty and laid back style that Brosnan brought to 007, could the dynamic have been improved with Dalton's version of 007 front and center? Indeed. Look, I want to remind everyone reading that this isn't an article to bash GoldenEye, or take away from the success it had, but from an acting standpoint, I've always felt that having someone with a little more acting chops in the role of James Bond helps the believability of the character. (I think we can agree Daniel Craig has cemented that point as well) So with that, imagine having had two believable performances here with Sean Bean and Timothy Dalton exchanging dialogue as 006 and 007 respectively. It could have been nothing short of brilliant in my humble opinion. More specifically, the scenes midway through the film, where Bond realizes his old friend 006 is a traitor would have fit better seeing the reaction from Dalton as our favorite secret agent man. Think about it, the tenure Dalton had in the role from day one in The Living Daylights had his version of 007 essentially sick and tired of the job and overall not thrilled about some of the things he had to witness having a license to kill. So after the events in his first film, and then of course the bloodshed he was apart of in License to Kill, seeing a fellow agent he thought could be trusted to no end turn on his country would have completed a major story arc for Dalton's 007. It simply would have made the reveal scene in GoldenEye have more emotional impact visually and emotionally. Now let's take a look into how the action scenes could have been improved with Dalton continuing what he started....
