Last year, rumours were rife that talks were ongoing about the possibility of there being a potential He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie on the horizon, with Jon Chu in talks to direct. However, since then, it's all gone a little quiet on that front - the possibility of such a movie seemingly getting less and less likely with every passing moment. But we want one, right?! Nothing would please us 80's kids more than a modernisation of our beloved franchise. And it would also be pretty cool to introduce a new audience to a big screen version of the man from Eternia. After all, the latest series of He-Man cartoons just weren't in the same league as the old Filmation spectacle we grew up with back in the day. So, with that in mind, let's take a look at 5 reasons why there should be a new He-Man movie...
5. The Super Age Of Movies
Now, He-Man may not be a superhero in what we've come to consider as 'the traditional sense' (he's not patrolling cities in Lycra or flying around at the speed of light), but he is indeed a hero. Recently, we've had a positive surge in the number of movies with heroic male protagonists, ranging from the traditional iconic superhero archtype (the likes of Spider-Man, Superman, Thor, Green Lantern, Hulk and Batman) to all kinds of other heroic and anti-heroic males (the likes of Conan the Barbarian, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Blade, Punisher and Jack Reacher), and there are many more on the way. Could He-Man fit in? Why the hell not. He's kind of a cross between Thor and Conan in some ways. I think now is the ideal time for a He-Man movie to flourish with the viewing masses. Exploit the trend, Hollywood!
