For many children of the 1990s, especially in America, Power Rangers is something they are aware of, even if they can barely remember or explain it. At its core, Power Rangers is about teenagers who get some sort of magical/technological device that puts them in spandex and bike helmets to fight monsters. If a monster gets blown up to Godzilla size, the Power Rangers usually have one or more giant robots on hand to beat them up or blow them into pieces. The stories and characters change, but the core framework, which is taken from Japanese super sentai shows (along with a lot of fight footage and costumes), remains the same throughout all 20 shows. Power Rangers is a kids show, through and through. Sometimes it has surprising moments of depth and maturity, but overall, it€™s one of those things that you sheepishly admit to liking as a kid. So Lionsgate€™s announcement of a new Power Rangers movie that reboots the first series was a huge, confusing shock. Everyone knows that these days, Hollywood is all about mining the mindshare of old brands in the hopes of making big money.
