5 Reasons Sin City: A Dame To Kill For Was A Huge Flop

4. A Horrible Marketing Campaign

We've seen time and time again how a bad marketing campaign can damn a movie before it ever hits theaters. We've also seen the opposite of that, as some films succeed because of the way they're marketed. Sin City: A Dame To Kill For unfortunately executed the first approach. The content of the trailers aside, Dimension Films didn't even begin marketing this film until halfway through the summer, when audiences' attention had already been captured by other, more exciting films like Guardians of the Galaxy or Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. They failed to build up any excitement around the film, which is extremely necessary in today's highly-competitive blockbuster market. Once they finally started their marketing push, it was "too little, too late." The trailers failed to get people interested in seeing the film, while the rest of the marketing materials hit the internet virtually unnoticed by moviegoers.
