3. Above Average Villains
Not only did you get a more than solid, and fresh interpretation of the Khan Noonien Singh character in this film, played brilliantly by Benedict Cumberbatch, Into Darkness offered two villains to really make things interesting for the crew of the Enterprise. I honestly didn't realize Peter Weller's character was going to end up as arguably the film's central villain. Perhaps I'm a little slow in catching on, but felt that in the end, he was one of the most bad-ass of Trek antagonists out of all the feature films. That's pretty amazing when you consider what limited screen-time he had. His one liner's were priceless, and it was all a testament to Weller's uncanny delivery and facial expressions, particularly as he faced off against Kirk and the Enterprise towards the third act of the film.
Even though Cumberbatch certainly nailed the part of Khan, in many ways I felt as if he was outdone by Weller's performance as Marcus. Either way, this film delivered two fantastic villains, something that previous Trek films have seemed to have a tough time satisfying fans with. Onto the next reason...
