1. A Criminal Mastermind
If you know me or the films and literature I love, youll know that I have a special place in my brain for criminals, especially master criminals and or supervillains. Now from what I know about the Mandarins story-lines in the comics and from the little we know about what hell do in the film, I can see, so long as the acting is top-notch, a great and iconic character here who could resemble but not outmatch Heath Ledgers Joker in Christopher Nolans The Dark Knight. Supervillains appeal to our basest humanity, to our repressed desires for darkness. Its like Anthony Hopkins says in Hitchcock: we all harbour dark recesses of violence and horror. We want to be like them, have their power and command their respect. We want to preside over criminal empires, we want wealth and the ability to do as we please because above all, above love and hate, I believe it is power that we want over eachother.
