1. Its Incredibly Relevant
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMJ9D3lSrDg This may be a puppet show but its one that gets the measure of life almost completely right. Everyone reading this has experienced or will experience some of the trials that the characters go through. Whether its trying to find work after university, struggling with having romantic feelings for a friend, or just trying to navigate the emotional clusterf**k that is adult life, we all have been or will be there. The writers of Avenue Q know this and expertly distil the essence of post-university life into the show, adding a wonderful sense of realism to it. As a treatise on adult life, the whole thing is amazingly accurate. Some of the lyrics in the song I Wish I Could Go Back To College such as We could be sitting in the computer lab at 4AM before the final paper is due, cursing the world cos I didnt start sooner and seeing the whole class there too is 100% accurate of my experiences of university so far. And a lot of the other song lyrics hit home as well, not to mention the dialogue and situations that the characters find themselves in. Personally, no piece of entertainment has never resonated with me this much. And reading that sentence back makes me worry a little bit about my life. Still, as Avenue Q teaches us, everything in life is only for now. Annoyed that it looks like theres no Avenue Q tour this year? Leave a comment...
