5 Reasons To Go To Film School And 5 Reasons Not To

9. You Are In A Bubble Of Creativity

For artistic types who spent their early years feeling alone and isolated as though nobody really understood them or what they were about, here is nothing quite like attending art school. Suddenly, you find yourself surrounded by such a volume of people who are more similar to you and share more interests with you than you have ever faced in your life - it can be quite overwhelming at first! I cannot even begin to count the number of friends I have who slaved away in small towns with little to no artistic community - not to mention filmmaking community - only to flourish when they moved to the big city and started attending film school. For the first time in their lives, they found themselves in an environment that encouraged and supported their creativity, and this is instrumental to finding success in filmmaking, or any other artistic field. When you attend film school, gone are the days when you have to ask your talentless friends to begrudgingly act in your films. NYU Tisch School of the Arts also has very successful acting and dance programs in addition to other performing arts, offering students access to some truly incredible talents with whom they can collaborate on projects. All in all, the experience is akin to a bubble of creativity - a group of hundreds of like-minded individuals, all creating together, collaborating, and helping each-other out. There is no equivalent experience in the real world.
