3. The Setting
A relatively minor point, but key to my findings on the film nonetheless. When the spaceship Prometheus sets down on LV-223 (not the same location as Aliens LV-426, in case you were wondering), its crew discover another ship shaped in the same way as that of the original Space Jockeys that the crew of the Nostromo stumbled upon. Once again, this practically goads the audience into simply waiting for the connections to the diehard Alien lore to kick in, as they do in quick succession with Peter Weyland introduced and the Space Jockeys back in full force. This setting, then, was always going to inevitably lead to a predictable run of events here, and we should at least be thankful that there are a handful of philosophical questions thrown into the mix, because once things get underway proper, for the most part the events of the landing on LV-223 feel almost identical to those of the original planet.
