5 Reasons Why They’ve Never Recaptured The Magic Of Terminator
4. The Soundtrack
The 80’s synth sounds of The Terminator and the post-industrial clunk of Terminator 2: Judgement Day resulted in great music forever stored in the memory banks of fans. They were as iconic as the films they served. Yet one struggles to remember even a single score to the later Terminator chapters. A basic principle of a groundbreaking film is to make an equally groundbreaking soundtrack.
The three sequels were professionally made Hollywood movies expected to rake in millions, so of course care was taken with the music, and of course the music was subsequently very well scored. But ultimately, it all falls into the typically-tense murk of other action movie soundtracks. They are pale sounds compared to the catchy hooks of musician Brad Fiedel's post-apocalyptic composition used in The Terminator and then appropriately reconditioned in Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
Anyone even remotely familiar WILL be humming these songs in their heads, while they read this point, and forever until the coming of Judgment Day itself. That's how catchy they are.
