5 Reasons Why What Ever Happened To Baby Jane Remake Will Flop!

3. It's Been Done Already

This won't be the first time a Baby Jane remake has been done. Back in 1991 a made for television remake was produced, starring real life siblings Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave. The film, whilst having some minor merits, fails to impress anywhere near as much as the original film. The main reason this remake falls flat is because it's a far more faithful adaptation of Henry Farrell's source novel. Some may consider this more appealing, but compared to the Crawford/Davis vehicle it's downright soft! Lynn Redgrave's Jane is a far more sympathetic character and not only shows signs of remorse for the cruelty she inflicts on Blanche, but has a far more 'human' side as opposed to Davis' sheer maniacal monster. The real life relationship between the two stars in this version adds an element of satire to the proceedings, but this doesn't even begin to compare to the relationship between Davis and Crawford - something that has become far more infamous and ultimately passed into legend even more so than the actual film. Any future remake will have to decide whether it will be a re-imagining or a faithful adaptation. Either way, it's clear from previous experience that it'll be a tough undertaking that will most likely prove fruitless.
