5. He Was An Outstanding Scholar
Lawrence got himself a first-class honours degree from Oxford after he submitted a thesis which hed actually traipsed around the Middle East researching for. He later became adept at contemporary and ancient languages too, even winning acclaim for translating books such as the French novel
The Forest Giant and Homers
Odyssey from ancient Greek, not to mention becoming fluent in Arabic astonishingly soon after finishing his degree. Most students today barely traipse down a library aisle in pursuit of knowledge, let alone travel to an incredibly dangerous place in order to collect information about Crusader castles. A clear indication that Lawrence, though a gifted history geek, was never one to sit idly by in a cosy library when there was a treasure trove of information on the frontiers of Western exploration. Remind you of a certain George Lucas creation? Certainly a favourite with any budding history buff and its fairly safe to say that T. E. Lawrence was an earlier, perhaps more refined, Indiana Jones.
