5 Times Nicolas Cage's Film Meltdowns Worked (And 5 Times They Didn't)

8. Bad: Department Store Freak Out (The Family Man, 2000)

Best line: "I'm sorry I was such a saint before and such a PRICK now!"

This quote by itself doesn't do the delivery justice, just gaze in awe as Cage remains calm in his argument until he blurts out the word "prick" and sort of gestures with his hand (2:42 in the video link). Honestly, it's reminiscent of Hamlet holding poor Yorick.

Family Man is essentially a two-hour long Nicolas Cage meltdown as it follows the visions of Jack Campbell's crossroads in his life. In this film, Jack is constantly searching for a bigger and better life eventually learning that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

The film itself is a poorly written "it was all a dream" romantic drama/comedy, and Cage's meltdowns (and there a few to note) don't quite fit the tone of this film, posing the question that perhaps they are better suited in action packed thrillers than family oriented drama/comedies.

In this scene, Jack is flirting with the idea with buying a two thousand dollar suit but, understandably, his wife Kate (Tea Leoni) scoffs at the price calling him crazy thus triggering an argument in the middle of a department store.
