4. Stuart: A Life Backwards
This is the true story of Stuart Shorter (wonderfully played by Tom Hardy) who was a homeless, drug-addicted, alcoholic ex-convict when he met Alexander Masters (played by Benedict Cumberbatch), a very middle class writer. They became unlikely friends and Alexander began to write a biography of Stuart's life, telling the story backwards. I haven't read the book, but knew the basics of Stuart's life; even so, I found the portrayal here extremely effective, to the point where I almost cried. A powerful story well-told, this really made me feel for Stuart and those who are condemned to a life such as his. This movie will hit the spot with its charm, story and unique way of presenting itself. This truly is a hidden gem.
