5 Up And Coming Directors Who Demand Your Attention

3. Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, Warcraft)

Duncan Jones There are not many movies that I will immediately re-play after I have finished watching it for the first time. However in 2010 I watched Duncan Jones' science fiction drama Moon, exactly 3 times in a row, and didn't move once from my seat. For weeks it was the only movie I could talk about and soon convinced some of my friends to watch the film. "F**king brilliant!" was most of their opinions. Duncan Jones attended London Film School where he graduated as a director. After working in advertising and developing a video game, Jones wrote and directed his first feature film. Moon debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009 where it received critical praise. The film stars Sam Rockwell as Sam Bell, a mining worker who works alone on a lunar base. His only companion is a computer operating system called GERTY, voiced by Kevin Spacey. Soon Sam discovers that he is not alone and that he may have been on the base for longer than he thought. Moon won the award for Best British Independent Film award and Jones won the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Directorial Debut at the 2009 British Independent Film Awards. His next feature film was the 2011 science fiction thriller, Source Code, starring Jake Gyllenhall. This film debuted at the South By Southwest Film Festival and quickly went on to become a critical and box office success. There are rumours that Jones might develop the film into a television series for CBS. His next project is sure to be highly anticipated by many game freaks throughout the world. It was announced this past January that Jones will direct a film adaptation of the popular video game, Warcraft. Production is slated to start early in 2014 with a release sometime in 2015. Jones' name was attached to several projects such as Man Of Steel, Dredd, and The Wolverine. Even though these films eventually went to other directors it still shows that he is quickly gaining a positive reputation within the film industry.
